War Of Iraq And America

The First Gulf War of Iraq and America happened because Saddam Hussein got greedy. He saw the tiny, yet very rich country of Kuwait and decided he could take possession of the abundance of oil and seaports.

Iraq has one small seaport and Saddam decided he needed more. He never dreamed that a world superpower would come to their rescue. He was not very smart at all, now, was he?

Greed In Kuwait  starstarstarstarstar
I have spent some time in Kuwait and I guess I can understand how Saddam might have felt about the Kuwaiti people. Greed in Kuwait abounds!

My observation ...

In July of 1990, Saddam said that the Kuwaitis were trying to wage economic warfare against Iraq by holding the price of oil down. He also said the Kuwaitis were stealing oil from an Iraqi oilfield that bordered Kuwait.

On August 2, 1990, Saddam started the war by sending his troops and tanks into Kuwait to occupy it. Six days later Saddam declared Kuwait to be Iraq's 19th province.

The United States, and Great Britain, along with many other countries, Arab nations included, formed an international coalition and went to Saudi Arabia and all along Iraq's borders. They tried to get Saddam to change his mind. Saddam would have none of it.

I was proud to go to Saudi Arabia as a civilian contractor in January of 1991 to be a part of the First Gulf War of Iraq and America.

The bombing of Iraq went on for five weeks and then our ground forces went into Iraq and Kuwait. We liberated Kuwait and the Kuwaitis still treat us as heroes. I travel back and forth now between Iraq and Kuwait and I am always treated with great respect and admiration by the Kuwaiti people.

A ceasefire agreement was signed on February 28, 1991. Iraq said they would obey all United Nations Security Council resolutions. Iraq would provide disclosure in full, giving all information on nuclear, ballistic, chemical, and biological weapons and programs for the development of these weapons.

In short, Saddam lied about giving the UN the information they requested.

Unfortunately, our coalition stopped there and did not finish the job of putting an end to Saddam in 1991. This caused us to have to go back again in 2003. Four years later, even after the demise of Saddam, we are still trying to abolish the insurgents so the people of Iraq can live in peace.

President Bush (41), you did a fine job, but you should have finished your job so that thousands did not have to die unnecessarily in this current war.

And to Bill Clinton, who had opportunity to take out Osama bin Laden, but did nothing, you should have done your job instead of doing the undignified things you did to bring disgrace on the White House.
