War of Iraq and USA
The War of Iraq and USA, or the Second Gulf War began On March 20, 2003. United Nations sanctions from the First Gulf War were responsible for a lack of nutritious food and adequate medicine in Iraq. The World Health Organization claims that more than 500,000 Iraqi children died due to the UN sanctions. The sanctions did nothing to Saddam's regime, so what good did they do? They punished children who needed help. Saddam had everything he wanted. That was not enough. In August of 1998, UN weapons inspectors were not allowed by the Iraqis to inspect several sites in Iraq. Saddam's government said it was suspending their cooperation until all First Gulf War sanctions were taken away. In December of 1998, under Bill Clinton's presidency, the United States and Great Britain performed air strikes on Iraq. Back to March 20, 2003, without backing from the UN, the United States launched shock and awe missile at targets in Iraq, mostly in Baghdad.
Then we sent in Coalition ground troops, mostly American. The United States military has been in Iraq since then for over four years. 4047 as of April 23, 2008 in the war. This number includes both military and civilian personnel. It is a high price to pay. I have been in Iraq for the majority of the four years, serving as a civilian contractor. Saddam went into hiding, along with his family and government officials. We found and killed Saddam's terrorist sons, Uday and Qusay in July of 2003 in a shootout with the United States military. Then in December of 2003, our troops found the great Saddam in a hole in the ground, alone, hiding from the United States. We took him into captivity until his trial by the Iraqi people in 2006. The trial ended with Saddam being declared guilty of murdering his own people. He was hanged in December of 2006 and went on to his just reward. The Second Gulf War of Iraq and USA is still going strong thanks to insurgents, both Iraqi and those not from Iraq who come into the country to stir up trouble. We have already lost troops who continue to sacrifice their lives for the Iraqi people.
