Vacation in Kuwait

So you want to vacation in Kuwait?

While Kuwait is not known as a vacation spot, it does have a few things to see.

Chances are you have a loved one who works in Kuwait and instead of him or her coming home, perhaps you want to go there and see the country.

First of all on your vacation in Kuwait, if you travel in the spring/summer/fall expect it to be hot and dusty. It is also very humid. I mean it is so bad you can slice it with a knife. I was never cool there. I was always hot. I would come home at night and strip off my wet clothes.

I was always too busy working in Kuwait to get out and see much of Kuwait City. I saw the coastline. There are numerous parks by the sea one can go to. However, I very seldom saw people down there.

There is the Kuwait Liberation Tower which is the tallest building in Kuwait. It was started before Saddam invaded Kuwait as a communications tower. It was put on hold during the invasion, but the work was finished in 1996. It was renamed Kuwait Liberation Tower.

Someone had told me that it was a memorial to the United States for their help, but I could see no sign of this. It has a restaurant in the top. One would get a good view of Kuwait and the ocean but not much else.

I have conflicting reports about what one can and cannot do at the tower. The best thing to do is to contact a travel agent about this site and other things to do on your vacation in Kuwait.

Also, for your vacation in Kuwait, if you want to feel important, the hotel or travel agency can arrange for someone to meet you at the airport. They will be standing in a line as you leave, holding your name on a paper.

If you do this, make sure you get a phone number just in case they are not there.

By the way, once you get your luggage and head out the door, there will be hundreds of people lined up on the sides gawking at you. I think it is a national pasttime there.

And because of the heat, most travel will be done at night to the United States.

There is a brand new soccer stadium. There is ice skating. There really is not anything there to see that you cannot find in the United States. They have some nice hotels, which I never did get to stay in since our company had its own housing. If you are visiting there as a meeting place for someone working in Iraq, Afghanistan or even Kuwait, then it is okay. Due to the heat and humidity, you will probably want to stay inside anyway.

The food is okay. I never ate anything that made me sick. However, use the bottled water. Do not drink from the faucet. There are plenty of American-style restaurants there, but no pork.

Keep in mind that during the fall is Ramadan. There is no eating or drinking during the day, even at the hotels. However, McDonald’s at the airport will still be open.

There are plenty of cab drivers. Try to find one who speaks English. If not, then you may get one who will take you all over just to run up your bill. If possible, know where you are going and how to get there. Take a hand held GPS with you. This will make sure the cab driver does not cheat you.

It is a good place to just lay around the pool all day and night. There are night clubs there where you can get alcohol even though it is supposed to be illegal since it is a Muslim country.

To get to your vacation in Kuwait you will have to fly to Dubai. However, United is offering a flight from Washington Dulles straight to Kuwait International Airport.

Once you arrive for your vacation in Kuwait, go to the Visa Section. Get a number and get in line. A VISA will cost you about $12. It is easy for Americans to get a VISA. It used to be free for Americans but not anymore.

Once you have your VISA, put it in a safe place because you will need it to leave the country. After you have the VISA go get your luggage. You do not need to get into the passport line since your passport will already be stamped.

Once you have your luggage it will go through an x-ray machine and then you are on your way.

At the airport, you may want to use the ATM to get some Kuwaiti dinars. You may also want to get a Sim card for your telephone.

There should be taxis out front. It will cost about $20 or more to go anywhere from the airport.

Kuwait is safe for now. When the United States pulls out of Iraq, which is a bad idea, then the country will fall into civil war. That war will cross the borders of Kuwait.

My prediction is Iran and Syria will both invade Iraq. The government will not be able to stand and it will fall. Al Sadr will take over the place and he will try to finish what Saddam started with Kuwait. You can read about all of this on this site.
