Treatment of Women in Afghanistan

The Treatment of Women in Afghanistan is harsh. They are treated like they are nothing more than a piece of property. If you are a woman in the United States and think you are being mistreated, then I encourage you to go to Afghanistan and see how they are treated.

Sometimes my children think they are being mistreated and life is not fair. I tell them I wish they could go to Afghanistan or even Juarez, Mexico. After a visit to these two places, they would gain a whole new perspective about life and mistreatment.

We had Afghan women who worked for us on our base keeping the offices clean. These ladies had to wear the traditional Burka to work each day. At work they would take off the Burka and underneath they would have traditional clothing on.

This might have been OK for winter time, but during the summer time, they had to be miserable wearing all these garments.

At the end of the day, they would leave with their burkas on and looking fatter than when they came in. We knew they were stealing cleaning supplies, but we chose to over look it.

What was funny to me was the fact they thought they were fooling us.

We knew that the males in the household expected them to bring stuff home to sell to support their drug habit. Treatment of Women in Afghanistan who did not were beaten and sometimes we would never see them again.

The ladies working for us were called whores and so on. There was no whoring going on. One day our base commander fired an Afghan man for cat calling to one of our female workers. The next day we learned she had been killed, but no one knew by whom. We did.

We had many Afghan men working for us. They could speak and write English. They had cell phones. They had good clothing and shoes compared to the women.

Treatment of Women in Afghanistan is also bad because the women were not allowed to learn how to speak English so they might get a better job. They did not have cell phones.

Treatment of Women in Afghanistan is horrible because they are not allowed to marry who they want. Their husband is picked out for them. They cannot marry Western men. In order to leave the country they have to have a passport and visa. But unless they are traveling with a male, then they are not given these.

I bet if they could, they would marry American men and get the heck out of Dodge, if you get my meaning.

The Taliban use women as shields from military attacks. It is against policy now for any coalition force to attack the Taliban if there is the possibility of civilians getting killed. This will result in this war going on forever unless we just quit and pull out.

The women who worked for us worked hard and did a good job cleaning. They would also do any sewing we needed done. But they were not beautiful as American women are. You could tell that life had been hard on them.

They had to contend with rape and other forms of mistreatment by the Russians. Then the Taliban. Then the Americans brought some relief to their lives, but that relief came with a chance of getting killed in a fire fight. Now, the Taliban are back and making big gains. Their cruelty is worse now than it was before.

Soon the women will be back to living in hell again. Their only hope is for the American government and the United Nations to realize that the only way to win against the Taliban is to flood the country with hundreds of thousands of soldiers to rid them of the Taliban. A few thousand soldiers are not going to make any difference.

8-31-09: As the election results are being tallied, we find that many Afghan women did not go vote. The dominate male in the house kept them out of the polling place. Women are no more than a piece of trash to men in Afghanistan.
