Security Jobs In Iraq
Security jobs in Iraq are plentiful. The United States military and civilian personnel need plenty of security protection.
Civilian companies working in Iraq need your services desperately to provide protection for their employees and they are willing to pay for it. If you need money and you are good with a gun, these jobs are for you.
Pay for these jobs through an American company starts around $80,000 and goes up into the six-figure bracket per year if you complete your year-long contract. If you stay out of the United States for 330 days in any 365 day period, the first $80,000 you earn is tax-free.
Security jobs in Iraq are usually performed on military bases. When the military moves off of the base for maneuvers and patrols, some of the security personnel go with the military, usually as part of a large convoy.
Be prepared to be miserably hot, live in a tent, and get shot at because you will be in a warzone. It seems obvious, yet so many civilians who come to Iraq to work do not realize this. They come in to camp. The first attack happens within a day or two and they are on the first plane out of Iraq. I have seen it happen over and over.
Before you quit your job at home to come to Iraq, think long and hard about it. Make up your mind that you will not take off at the first explosion or at the first bullet that, hopefully, whizzes on by you.
Understand that this is a dangerous place and you will be carrying and using weapons. Understand also that the military is in charge and you will do what they want you to. If you have a problem with authority, this is not the type of job for you.
By using civilians to provide security, our troops are freed up to fight off the Iraqi insurgents and protect Iraqi citizens. This also helps to keep the number of troops necessary in Iraq at a lower number so more troops can be home with their families for longer periods of time.
Not all security jobs in Iraq are filled by Americans. They are filled by citizens of many countries around the world as well. Men and women from Europe, Africa, and Asia have citizens working in Iraq, not to mention all of the Americans who are there, supporting our troops. Most Americans performing these jobs are military veterans.
The main American companies providing Iraq with security are DynCorp, Blackwater, and Triple Canopy. There are close to 40 American and British companies and close to 20 Iraqi companies providing security jobs in Iraq who are registered to do so. There are many more non-registered companies working illegally in Iraq for this purpose. We suggest going with a legally registered company!
These companies are earning millions of dollars each year. Most contracts for employees are for one year at a time. Some employees stay longer. Others go home after the first year is over. This high turnover means there are always positions open.
