Satellite Internet In Iraq

Satellite internet in Iraq is available on American bases.

Civilian companies must purchase a satellite system but most have them already. The military provides internet for military personnel. Almost everyone carries a laptop with him/her on base, especially the civilians. It is how business gets done. The signal is usually pretty good and you do not have to be at Starbucks to pick it up.

Computers are the most common source of entertainment. Of course, there is keeping in touch with your family through e-mail and Skype phone. Computers are also great for watching movies. If your computer does not have one, you can download a media player onto your desktop to allow you to watch DVD's. Computers will also play music CD's.

Some people have portable CD players and portable DVD players instead of laptops. If you need to buy portable DVD players in Iraq, make sure that you go to the PX on base to do so.

If not, there is a chance the one you buy may not play American discs. Some of the players have coding that do not allow American movies to be played on DVD's built over here and vice verse.

On many bases, there are hoggie shops. They will have an assortment of pirated DVD's. I do not buy them because pirated DVD's are just what the name says--illegal. Also, they do not work half of the time and the quality for both video and sound is poor. On some of them, you can see people standing up and moving about in the theater where they were made. The noise from the theater is on the DVD as well. These DVD's can mess your player up.

Satellite internet in Iraq allows you to purchase and download movies online. There are also some websites that allow you to watch old TV shows on your computer.

Other sources of entertainment on the bases include movie theaters, satellite TV hookup in your room, and the old-fashioned-but-still-popular reading a book.

There is also the base MWR where card games, dominoes, and other table games are played. Money is not supposed to be exchanged--no gambling on base.
