Pulling Troops Out Of Iraq

by Tammy Marcus
(New York City)

Yes politicians on both sides speak about pulling troops out of Iraq.

But do they really mean it? Who is kidding who?

Probably not. You see, too many people have jobs because of this war in Iraq. If the war were to suddenly shut down tomorrow, hundreds of thousands of American citizens as well as citizens of other countries would be without jobs.

And currently, the United States is the largest employer in the world. People from many countries, indirectly are on Uncle Sam's payroll.

The shame of it all is that when they talk of pulling out, even though they do not mean it, they embolden the insurgents to attack harder. To the insurgents, the pullout of the United States means they have won.

We have to stay and finish the job. We had to stay many years in Europe, Korea and Japan to bring stability. Pulling troops out of Iraq is not practical for peace or for financial stability. We will have to stay in the Middle East for many years to bring about a lasting peace.
