People In Iraq
People in Iraq are divided into sects. The Taliban is a group of fundamentalist Sunni and Shiite. The Sunni Muslims. They ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Then their leaders were taken from power by American air bombings and the Northern Alliance ground forces. Leftover Sunni groups are now fighting against the current government of Afghanistan and NATO forces. This evil group of people in Iraq treats women inhumanely. Women must wear a burka which covers them from head to toe, except for a little window in the face so they can see. Women cannot work. Girls cannot go to school after they turn eight years old. Prior to turning eight, they could only study the Koran. If women try secretly to get an education, death is their punishment, along with that of their teachers. Women cannot be treated by a male doctor unless another male accompanies the woman. This means some illnesses will not be treated because the woman does not feel comfortable talking about certain medical problems since she could be punished by death if she has them. Think about it. Women can be publicly flogged and executed for violating their laws.
For entertainment purposes, Mullah Mohammed Hassan, who is a Taliban official has been quoted as saying that he wants people to go to parks and see the flowers. He feels that this will teach them about Islam. Osama bin Laden moved from Sudan to Afghanistan in 1996. He forged an alliance between the Taliban and his movement, Al-Qaeda. Iraq's fighting is between the Sunni and the Shiite people. Saddam Hussein was supported by Sunnis. Currently in Iraq, the Sunni insurgency continues with daily killings of Iraqi civilians and American soldiers. For more information on the civil war going on Iraq, please visit
