Navy Seals In Iraq

Navy Seals in Iraq? As I was scanning a list of those killed in Iraq, I was surprised to see that a lot of Navy people were killed in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I used to wonder why since there is no ocean around.

Most people think that only the Army and the Marines are in Iraq. When the war first started, the television news used to report that we had United States warships on the way to the Gulf, but they never reported that naval personnel got off the ships and were actually in Iraq, fighting the war alongside soldiers and Marines.

I got my answer one day while I was at Al Asad Air Base. The Navy Seabees have been serving in Iraq, constructing many buildings for our American military people to live in. But in addition to the Seabees, the Seals have contributed to the efforts to stop terrorism and the insurgency.

Many of the missions that the Navy Seals have accomplished are classified. This means that we will not know what their missions have been.

We do know that they have helped to hunt down members of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

It is interesting to note that they were in the Gulf during the First Gulf War back in 1990 as well, helping our ground forces. They got to Kuwait City before any other United States forces in 1991.

Learn more about the Navy Seals.

The link above takes you to a website describing some of what our Navy Seals do. They have performed incredible missions as always. The above-mentioned website has just a few of the exploits of the Navy seals on the site. Much of what the Seals do is private, set forth in classified documents that will not be available to the public for many years to come.

Navy Seals in Iraq now join the ranks of heroes along with female veterans who have served in Iraq.
