Joe Lieberman For John McCain

by David
(Kabul Afghanistan)

I got the following letter from McCain's campaign written by Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman yesterday:

To: Fellow McCain Supporters

From: Senator Joe Lieberman

Date: June 5th, 2008

Today, I asked Senator McCain if I could create and chair a new grassroots organization, "Citizens for McCain."

Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the candidate for President who has a proven record of bipartisanship.

As you know, I caucus with the Democrats as a United States Senator and was the Democrat Party's nominee for Vice-President of the United States against President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

But first and foremost, I am an American. I have an obligation to do what I think is best for our nation regardless of political party. My love for this country and strong belief in John McCain's character, judgment, and willingness to work with leaders of both parties has convinced me to support him for President.

I have worked with John McCain for many years in the U.S. Senate and know from experience that he can unite Democrats, Republicans and Independents like no one else in this country. He did it in the United States Senate and he can do it as President of the United States.

But we need help from McCain supporters such as you to reach out to Americans who are not currently involved in the campaign. Will you help us by recruiting your friends, family, and co-workers who may not consider themselves members of the Republican Party and ask them to join the Citizens for McCain organization?

I am confident we will find many Democrats and Independents who, like John McCain and me, put country before political party and will support a leader with a real record of bipartisanship.

Time and time again John McCain has put his country first. He refused early release when he was held captive in Vietnam. He continued to put his country first as a national leader in the U.S. Senate. He put country before party when he fought to pass campaign finance reform, sought a bi-partisan solution to the immigration problem, and consistently supported pro-environment policies. His courage to stand up to the failed Iraq war plan of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and lead the fight for a new strategy in Iraq will go down in history, and it saved American lives. These were not always the easy things to do. In fact, they were usually very difficult, and often threatened his political career. But John McCain did what was right.

He said it best in his speech in New Orleans on Tuesday night:

"(The American people) know I have a long record of bipartisan problem solving. They've seen me put our country before any President -- before any party -- before any special interest -- before my own interest. They might think me an imperfect servant of our country, which I surely am. But I am her servant first, last and always."

The phones at the campaign headquarters have been ringing with disaffected Democrats calling to say they believe Senator McCain has the experience, judgment, and bipartisanship necessary to lead our country in these difficult times. Many of these supporters are former supporters of Senator Clinton.

Senator McCain has had a very good working relationship with Senator Clinton and will continue to do so in the future. In the same New Orleans speech he said:

"Senator Clinton has earned great respect for her tenacity and courage. The media often overlooked how compassionately she spoke to the concerns and dreams of millions of Americans, and she deserves a lot more appreciation than she sometimes received. As the father of three daughters, I owe her a debt for inspiring millions of women to believe there is no opportunity in this great country beyond their reach. I am proud to call her my friend."

I am proud to call John McCain my friend and ask you to help our friend become the next President of the United States.

Please forward this email to your lists today and ask your friends, family, and coworkers who do not consider themselves Republicans to join me in filling out the Citizens for McCain form today.

Thank you for your willingness to help me expand this new organization. Together, we will make history.

Quite a letter but after what the Democrats did to Lieberman a few years ago, who can blame him? Here is my letter to Senator Lieberman:

Senator,

I am already doing all I can for John McCain.

But may I make a few suggestions:

1. Keep the lights off Obama by not slinging mud at him or even talking about him. Keep the focus on McCain and the Republican Party---Obama is riding a public high and anything said about him will just be twisted to make McCain look bad. The Republican Party should keep their hands off of him--this guy is a Muslim (even though he claims he is not) and is part of our newest enemy. He attended a church where hate for the white man was taught. Is it any wonder that his district in Chicago had has more teens killed this year than last year--if I remember the article correctly and yet so many people voted for him--leave him alone and he will shoot himself in the foot without any help from the Republicans.

2. Right now there are so many Republicans, like myself, serving overseas. Tells us how we can vote absentee. State by state lay out exactly what we have to do so our vote will count.

3. The main issue with the American people is the war in Iraq and the WMD--we just have not invested enough effort in finding them--mainly because we have had too many other things to do to spend the time and resources necessary to find them--relate the search for the weapons to recent American stories--like Chandra Levy--took a year or so to find her, the missing hikers on Mt. Hood several winters ago--i do not think they were ever found--most recently a soldier that went missing while training last August--they assumed he was AWOL but then his body was just found--

4. Focus on telling people how you are going to get American jobs back to America--corporate America wants us to buy their products made in other countries--but if they take American jobs and send them to other countries--then where are Americans going to get the money they need to buy the products corporate America wants us to buy--even know, with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan so many American dollars are being paid to foreign workers, not because Americans do not want to work, but because it is supposedly cheaper--but it really is not--I will use KBR--they have to hire 3-4 Third Country Nationals to do the job that one American can do. The American wants more pay--but by the time food ($35 a day per person), housing, travel and all the other things involved in getting TCNs to Iraq and Afghanistan to work, the price is actually higher--it would have been cheaper to hire the American--plus the American is going to spend that money back in America where it came from in the beginning--why are the French building American weapons of war?? This kind of stuff has to stop--this is what to run the campaign on--

5. Do not debate. McCain cannot win against Obama--the media will just twist it all around to make McCain look bad--

6. As far as Healthcare goes--leave it alone--you cannot win--let Obama talk universal healthcare--I do not know if you saw Michael Moore's video called Sicko--at first it is easy to believe--but then there are some things Mike does not mention--like the tax base these Universal Healthcare countries pay--what Mike also leaves out is that America is the foremost developer of medical procedures and drugs--this research cost money--someone has to pay for it--that is the insured people--if I spend 5 billion developing a drug and then someone gets a hold of the ingredients--well of course they can sell it cheaper--they did not have to pay the development cost--and 50% of the medical issues could be solved if people stopped over eating, drinking excessively and smoking--and then if they stopped this they could probably afford medical insurance.

7. Get McCain out jogging, working on the treadmill--get him into the public schools with photo ops showing him in the weight room--catching a few passes--maybe sprinting with the guards on a football team--it will be football season--get to the games especially college--visit some locker rooms--the college students are voters--get him out there in the football public--push individual care of the body--which is a big deal for a lot of people--

8. Do not respond to anything that Obama says--Rush Limbaugh and others will take care of this...be the adult--I have to tell myself this constantly at work when someone unjustly complains about me or criticizes me...I do not fight back...I play the adult and usually it turns out for my good
