Iraq People
Sunni Islamic Iraq people supported Saddam Hussein. They are made up of the working class, lower middle class and peasants. These Muslims are the biggest denomination of Islam. Their name means "words and actions." They are based on a "majority rules" philosophy and yet they are the minority in Iraq. These Muslim people are about 35% of Iraq's population, yet under Saddam they were in control of the Shiite people because of their leaders ties to them. Saddam's father-in-law was one. They are concentrated mostly in northern Iraq, where Saddam Hussein is from. His hometown is Tikrit, yet he was raised in Baghdad. The people of Tikrit proudly claimed their dictator.
The Sunni Iraq people belong to the sect that controls Islam. They are the majority of one billion Muslims worldwide. Yes, that is correct. They are 90% of the world's one billion Muslim population. They are spread out across Indonesia and India, Africa, Asia and the Middle East all the way to the United States of America. An interesting note is that the main center of education in Sunni Islam is a mosque-university of al-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt. Islam was founded near Mecca which is in Saudi Arabia. Their holy book is the Koran. On an interesting note, these extremists blew up the golden dome of a very important mosque in Samara belonging to the Shiites in February of 2006. This was a mosque with supposed historic significance. Just this week, on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 these extremists struck the same mosque again, blowing up two minarets. Of course, this caused retaliation from the Shiites who spent the rest of the week blowing up their enemies' mosques throughout Iraq.
