Iraq Jobs
This page is about Iraq jobs. These are jobs in Iraq with an Iraqi company. Let me tell you about John (not his actual name) who is working for Company A (not actual name). Jobs in Iraq will increase for Americans as peace and stability come to the region. John's first email to me was to say that he and a group were going to Iraq to be part of Company A and that they would be staying in the new BIAP Hotel. "...Will be staying at the new BIAP Hotel as a base for operations. "Can you tell me how secure we are there, and what to expect? Naturally it took some coaxing to get some of the guys to go, but we are mostly from XXXX in Hawaii and after 60 years the XXXX went bust and we're jobless.
"If you can help us with information and tips and anything else, we'd all greatly appreciate it. I'm the XXXX and in charge of the group. I'd like to have a little heads up if you can give me one.
"Thank you very much for your fantastic website. Really a great resource."
My reply, based on his information about jobs in Iraq, was: "You may want to take hand cleaner with you--these people do not use toilet paper like we do--if you get my drift-- "Drink only the bottled water--make sure you know the numbers of your ATM card--i knew the letters and in Dubai, the ATM did not have the letters, just the numbers--be prepared to see and hear a lot of weird stuff--the food in the hotel will probably be okay--but refer back to the above on hand washing."
Several days later, I got this reply: "Am at BIAP Hotel now. I think it was old Army BOQ or something made of portables. What a dump, but dry and there is hot water." It looks like they were lied to as to where they would be living. So always take it with caution when an Iraq company tells you where you will be living when you are filling Iraq jobs. What may be first class to Iraqis would not even be good enough for me to let my dog live in.
Here is another email from John: "There are few places in the world where a trailer calls itself a four star hotel. The stench of sewage out back, the barbed wire, the foul food, the noise. . . we are about to pack up and start trying to get out of this *&^%hole. "I know there are worse places, but that doesn't mean this is acceptable. The XXXX are months away from being able to go online and we are going crazy." Welcome to Iraq jobs.
Here is more from John's Iraq jobs log.... "I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and fever and sick as a dog. Turns out the diarrhea I had for the first few days since being in XXXX had gone systemic. I went to the clinic, which was scary. They have a thermometer they stick in a bowl of alcohol and use for everyone. However the Iraqi doctor was trained in England so he has to know what he can get away with. "You are supposed to squat on the hamam and give a stool sample and urine sample and then I don’t know how they clean their butts because I had to ask for tissue paper. "But I got the antibiotics and hopefully will get better."
John's agony continues in our Iraq jobs story... "You've gotta get back over here. It's just fantastic. I mean, what would anyone want to be doing stateside when they can be camped next to Russians that smoke as fast as they can and fill the whole trailer up with smoke, and outside the smell of the mud that's green from mold. "*&^%, this is where it's HAPPENING! "I spent the night in the clinic which is only for contractors, inside the army camp, inside the XXXX area. They put me on an IV for 18 hours and then released me with some Imodium. But they did blood work, stool, urine, ekg, gave me anti-cramping meds, Valium, and generally gave me some sanitary conditions and food for almost a day. "I think that's a pretty good deal. Cost $1,046, but a hospital overnight in the states would be about ten times asmuch. Now to get the insurance co. to reimburse. "Well, running to the toilet or not I XXXX tomorrow or Wednesday, a turn-around to XXXX and back. The other guys have been to XXXX and back. Gradually we're getting up and running."
