Fallujah Iraq
Fallujah Iraq is about forty miles to the west of Baghdad on the Euphrates River. You are familiar with the name because this city is mentioned on the news almost everyday. Why?
Because Fallujah is the the most violent city in Iraq during the war and is home to the Sunni resistance group called Wahabi. Sunni insurgent attacks are frequent here because of the Wahabi group. Dating back to the 1980's, this city has been a hotbed of Sunni trouble and is inside of the infamous Sunni Triangle. The Wahabi Committee of Faith coordinates the many insurgent attacks in the city. Prior to the war, the population was approximately 350,000 in 2003. Many left this city but many more continue to pour in because of the Wahabi. About 300 people move to this city each month now. It is nicknamed the city of mosques because it has more than 200 mosques in the city and in the outskirts of the city. Camp Baharia is home to the United States Marines and is the nearest United States base to this city. It is about two miles southeast of the city. Camp Baharia is now known as Camp Dreamland.
Camp Dreamland boasts a large PX and an internet cafe that gives access to telephones, computers with internet, instant messaging and web cams. It also has a gym tent and a camp chapel. Camp Fallujah is the main base for the United States troops and is much bigger than Dreamland. It is located adjacent to Dreamland. I am being sent there within the next few weeks so I will be able to write more about it when I arrive. So check back soon......
