Camp Taji Iraq

Camp Taji Iraq is located about 12 miles northwest of Baghdad. In addition to United States troops being stationed at this camp, a portion of the Iraqi National Guard and the Iraqi Army are also there.

I find it to be very interesting that the camp is divided by a gate. One side is for the Americans and the other side is for the Iraqi troops and new recruits.

There is a large PX and some great fast food places that include Burger King, Subway, and Pizza Hut. The defac is top notch. It is huge. The food served at this defac is incredible and there is a huge variety, better than any of the other bases I have visited in Iraq. Meals are prepared four times a day.

The trailers that house our soldiers are air conditioned, complete with hot showers. Gyms are available around Camp Taji Iraq so the troops can get plenty of exercise. The MWR facilities are great and movies can be enjoyed, along with games and sports during off hours. It truly is a great camp.

Another cool thing this camp has is free phone and video phone services. The Freedom Calls Foundation very generously provides 30 phones for soldiers to use to call the United States. There is always a line of troops waiting to use the phones, but it is worth the wait to be able to speak with loved ones free of charge.

The Freedom Calls Foundation also provides 40 computers with internet so troops who do not have laptops can e-mail their families back home. This wonderful foundation also provides ten video e-mail stations and four video conferencing stations for the troops to use. Troops can see their families and the worried families back home can see their soldiers in Iraq. A big thank you to the Freedom Calls Foundation for providing such excellent services to make the lives of our troops and their families a little easier during wartime!

On the Iraqi side of Camp Taji Iraq, new Iraqi recruits are trained by the Iraqi Army. The United States military used to provide this training but now the Iraqi Army is able to do this.

We have set up two medical clinics so the new soldiers have medical care. At these clinics, soldiers have access to some of the newest medical technology available.

There is a newly renovated theater that seats 500 so the Iraqi soldiers and the Iraqi National Guard can enjoy movies. The theater is also used for showing videos that will train Iraqi soldiers.
