Camp Liberty Iraq

Camp Liberty Iraq also know as Camp Victory North, or Camp al-Tahreer, is located northeast of Baghdad International Airport.

This base has the largest PX in Iraq plus a large "mall" with over seventy Iraqi national vendors.

Burger King, KFC and other fast food establishments can be found at this PX as well. Generally the lines are long but they seem to move fairly fast.

One disadvantage to the PX is it is a favorite target of insurgents. They have hit close to the PX and have injured and killed several people.

This gives the soldiers an opportunity to purchase authentic Iraqi-made goods as gifts and souvenirs for themselves and their family and friends without having to leave the security of the base.

This base is divided into three parts--Division LSA (Life Support Area), West Life Support Area, and Camp Blackjack.

Each of these three divisions has its own dining facility, MWR facility (MWR stands for Morale Recreation and Welfare Building), chapel, mini-PX, gym, internet cafe, and barber shop. Each also has its own volleyball and basketball courts.

Every dining facility in Iraq that I have been in has wide screen TVs playing a variety of shows, DVD and so on.

There are rows of white trailers for living quarters. They each have two bedroom/living spaces with a bathroom in between them.

Each soldier/civilian has eighty square feet plus they share the bathroom. I have lived in this kind of housing since I was in Baqubah four years ago and it is so much better than the regular billeting.

Fast food here includes Popeye's chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, Pizza Hut, and Burger King so it is a great place to be.

There is a weekly rugby match, along with other sporting matches. Soldiers along with personal and equipment from KBR cleared the fields but it was well worth it once they could play team sports. These games are open to people from all of the different cultures on base.

The detention facility at Camp Liberty Iraq holds detainees who are scheduled to soon be freed. It consists of tents with air conditioning and is enclosed with a barbed wire fence.

Looking for a job overseas?

Iraq Up Close and Personal recommends that you take a look at Danger Zone Jobs. As someone with overseas contracting experience I recommend Danger Zone Jobs and here’s why.

First of all they provide great information about working in Dangerous areas. No need to apply for a job in a Danger Zone if you are easily frightened.

Second of all they are not trying to scam you. They provide the tools and other information necessary for a person to get a job. They do not get one the job.

If a company is out there advertising a fee for a guaranteed job, walk away. It is a scam.

Third of all, following their tips and recommendations, I was able to get my jobs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They have many tools, to include resume help, available to help one find a great paying job!

The membership fee was worth its weight in gold since I made about $350,000 during the five years I worked overseas.

Welcome to Iraq Up Close and Personal.

On this site you will find out about my journeys and experiences in Iraq, Afghanistan, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East Countries.

This site also furnishes some job information, but this information is so vast and constantly changing that I cannot keep up so you will want to check the sources listed for updated information.

For those traveling in the Middle East, we offer a lot of suggestions. For those going to work in the Middle East, we offer a lot of helpful hints like what to bring as far as electricity goes.

We give some hints on how to travel safely like keeping your passport on you at all times. This can be done by wearing a T-Shirt with a pocket. Put the passport in the pocket and then wear a regular shirt over the T-Shirt. This will help keep it secure.

We post a lot of pictures, but I have even more to post than I have time to post them, but I hope to get to these soon.

We hope you find this site helpful.

In the upper left hand corner of this page is a place to sign up for a free newsletter. I try to get one out a quarter.

Debt Collectors

Lately there have been a lot of stories and reports about the illegal practices of Debt Collectors to include the practice of working with a local law enforcement official or even having someone dress up as a law enforcement official who comes to the door and demands payment or they will take you to jail.

First of all you cannot go to jail in the United States for not paying your debts. IRS is a bit different though.

Second of all, if someone shows up at your door wanting money, get the badge number/name and call 911. Do not tell them you are going to call 911 just do it.
