Call from Afghanistan

by Teresa Morgan
(Kandenhar, Afghanistan)

VOIP Phone

VOIP Phone

I am stationed in Afghanistan and have several ways to call home.

First there is my cell phone. But it can be quite expensive to call home. For some reason when my family tries to call me back they cannot get through.

Another way is through Skype. This is free and works pretty good. However the company you work for has to have a good bandwidth or it does not work very well. Also if too many people with your company get on at the same time, it will slow down your system. And it may even upset those browsing the internet who cannot browse because the bandwidth is being soaked up by those on Skype.

Another thing we have is a VOIP phone. Our VOIP provider is located in Texas so when I call from here, I am charged as if I am calling from Texas and not Afghanistan.

Then we also have satellite phones. These work good but are very expensive to use.

And last of all I keep in contact through e-mail via the internet.
