Army Bases in Iraq
This page gives a list of Army Bases in Iraq. For detailed information visit the pages we have on actual bases. This page is a dynamic page since the bases are always changing due to mission requirements. Some bases of operation have pulled out of cities and moved to the outskirts of town as the Iraqi Army attempts to maintain control.
The United States Marines are mostly in what is known as the Anbar Province. The United States Army is in the rest of the provinces. Other countries used to occupy parts of the country but many of these have pulled out, leaving the United States holding the bag on its own. One of these was Basra where Britain was located. They pulled out and now the United States has had to take care of the city of Basra as well.
Enduring bases in Iraq have been discussed and planned for from the beginning of the War. An enduring base is one that will be occupied by American troops for years to come. However, as of today, 9-26-09, this seems less and less likely. Those enduring bases that were built are being turned over, free, to Iraqis who will, if they have not already begun to, strip anything of value out of them.
